二向色滤光片（分色滤光片）用于需要隔离可见光谱的某些区域的各种应用中。一些较常见的应用是用于彩色放大器和复印机作为光平衡滤光器。它们在任何可能需要将入射能量分成两个或多个光束的应用中也非常有用。以下光谱曲线以垂直入射方式显示，但是对于许多应用，例如组合颜色，可能希望以45°入射角以反射模式使用它们。
在这些过滤器中使用的所有涂层材料都产生坚硬，耐用的介电薄膜，其没有随着使用年限和使用而降低的迹象。与使用时会褪色的有机染料或明胶类型不同，这些过滤器非常稳定，不会随着时间的推移而损失任何效率。这些过滤器也可以成套使用。过滤器也可以安装在螺纹环中。
